Libya Worse Than Ever After Gaddafi’s Death – “Far more people have been killed since 2011”

Libya Worse Than Ever After Gaddafi's DeathMany people that failed to believe in dictator Muammar Gaddafi’s are now expressing regrets. Let’s try and understand why this is.

Do the United States wars really free and bring democracy to the countries they claim to help? If we take a look at those countries now, we can see the opposite.

One of Zimbabwe’s leading newspaper The Sunday Mail holds information on this.

At the time, 2011 was expected to be a dangerous year.

After hearing rumors about one of Gaddafi’s plans to open fire on his own people,  international members had no choice but to act.

Many people have expressed different opinions. One clearly stated:

“‘I joined the revolution in the first days and fought against Gaddafi,’ former revolutionary fighter Mohammed, 31, said from the southern city of Murzuq. ‘Before 2011, I hated Gaddafi more than anyone. But now, life is much, much harder, and I have become his biggest fan.’”

Even if some civilians took action against Gaddafi, his overthrow in 2011 did not bring the people a sense of joy.

Approaching the Gaddafi Issue

Considering that the mission was a humanitarian one, along with many other world leaders, Obama admitted that Gaddafi should be left powerless. But, as it was proved by the Human Rights Watch, no reports of a bloodbath  have been recorded in Libya.

Based on one of Amnesty International’s investigations, all accusations brought against Gaddafi made no sense. The Independent states:

“Nato leaders, opposition groups and the media have produced a stream of stories since the start of the insurrection on 15 February, claiming the Gaddafi regime has ordered mass rapes, used foreign mercenaries and employed helicopters against civilian protesters.

“An investigation by Amnesty International has failed to find evidence for these human rights violations and in many cases has discredited or cast doubt on them. It also found indications that on several occasions the rebels in Benghazi appeared to have knowingly made false claims or manufactured evidence.”

Even if the NATO countries have declared that they will not try to change the regime, the U.N. Security Council imposed a no-fly zone. These measures’ goal was to make sure that NATO would only protect civilians, including the ones in Benghazi. Also, they wanted to avoid military foreign occupation in Libyan territory.

From Obama’s perspective, Libya was ruled by a “tyrant“. Then again, NATO’s intervention led by the U.S, sources say, did not stop the bloodbath, but rather prolonged the suffering of Libyan civilians.

In this case, the European and American forces’ intervention over Libyan territory had the role to assure that Gaddafi would be unable to use any air power against his own rebel forces.

Therefore, imposing a ” no-fly zone” was the only solution. Apparently, the bombs that NATO has released were intended from the very beginning with the sole purpose of protecting the civilians.

On the ISIS Issue

One of the Libyan rebel leaders partaking to the protests willingly admitted to deeper connections.  It has been revealed that some fighters among them were al-Qaeda-linked jihadists. And, of course, they all engaged the U.S. troops in Iraq.

Even though they are known in Iraq as al-Qaeda, today, ISIS is the name they go by. It comes as no shock knowing that ISIS has a refuge in Libya as well. It appears Gaddafi’s fall may be a reason for this.

Unlike any other country in Africa, the image of Libya changed.

Before NATO’s aggression, it appears that Libya had one of the highest standards of living. As a prosperous society, its populations enjoyed many benefits. Among them, the most important to mention is health-care.

For example, four years later after Gaddafi’s fall, Libya dropped 27 places in the ratings of U.N. Human Development Index. Based on data given by UNICEF, about two million Libyan children  are unable to go to school.

Why are all these events taking place? Are they merely a consequence resulting from outer influences?

Even though it may not seem that way, Libya, like any other egalitarian country had a progressive democracy. Local administrations took all the decisions.

Furthermore, creator Sacha Baron Cohen of famous movie The Dictator offers a wrong portrayal of its dictatorship.

Theories Surrounding Gaddafi’s Governing

In spite of all events surrounding Gaddafi, he did provide stability for his country. Former Libyan leader properly conducted a proper government and even “excellent cooperation” with the UK.

Especially relevant is also Nicolas Sarkozy,  former French leader. Investigations are still proceeding around the 2007 presidential elections.

Even if responsible for Gaddafi’s assassination, sources claim Sarkozy did accept €50 million from Gaddafi during that period.

How should the public know the truth after all? It seems like all politicians have something to hide.

Was the destruction of Libyan government just a game for the U.S? At this point, it is uncertain.

One Libyan medical student had this to say:

“We thought things would be better after the revolution, but they just keep getting worse and worse.

“Far more people have been killed since 2011 than during the revolution or under 42 years of Gaddafi’s rule combined.

“We never had these problems under Gaddafi.

“There was always money and electricity and, although people did not have large salaries, everything was cheap, so life was simple.

“Some of my friends have even taken the boat to Europe with the migrants because they feel there is no future for them here.

“I would like to escape this mess and study abroad but I have been waiting a year for a new passport and, even when I do get one, it will be hard to get a visa because all the embassies left in 2014.

“So now I feel like a prisoner in my own country. And I have started to hate my own country.
